Jay leads Barker Henley’s Business Advisory and Enhancement practice. His personalised and commercial approach is held in high regard by both clients and peers. Jay excels at converting strategies into practical action plans and monitoring these through to achievement.
He has advised on risk management, audit and business enhancement strategies for organisations in Australia, the UK, the US, Asia and the Middle East, culminating in successful business improvement initiatives that drive change, increase profitability, and achieve significant cost savings and cash flow improvements.
Prior to Barker Henley, Jay was a Risk Advisory Partner with a ‘Big 4’ accounting firm and held senior executive positions with major Australian and multi-national companies – including establishing and managing highly successful, commercially-focused internal audit, risk management, financial management and business improvement functions
Jay’s industry experience spans government, education, banking & finance, retail, manufacturing, distribution, insurance, healthcare, publishing, shipping and non-profits.
As a business adviser, Jay has successfully implemented numerous finance and process governance frameworks, finance and audit ‘centres of excellence’, end-to-end process re-engineering and ERP systems. This has enabled his clients – nationally and internationally – to realise ongoing business improvement, effective KPI development/ benchmarking and enhanced performance management across all internal functions.
A recognised expert in financial and budgetary management, Jay’s business process mapping methodology and principles have been adopted by the Australian National Audit Office, the NSW & Queensland Medical Boards and private sector groups in Australia and Asia. He is also the author of, “The Auditing Roadmap: A Simple Guide to the Auditing Process” currently used by the NSW Audit Office, a recommended text for Chartered Accountant students and prescribed reading for the Masters of Professional Accounting at the Australian National University
